Side Effects is a book by Amy Goldman Koss. I used to do speech and Drama stuff in highschool and now I'm part-timing with the librarian rating and hunting through books for some good contest stuff for kids. Side Effects is about a 14 year old girl with cancer. It's actually really funny and cute and it's packed with first person monolouges perfect for what you're looking for. check it out!
God bless

When I was 16, I won the Dramatic Monologue category at the International Theatre Festival of London (no kidding) with Bertolt Brecht's "Jewish Wife" monologue. It's a scene where the Jewish wife of a German doctor is practicing how she's going to tell her husband she's leaving him to spare him from the abuse he's getting from the Nazi's. Very dramatic! Made everyone cry!

Shakespeare impresses so long as you pronounce the stuff right.
I suggest Phoebe's "Think not I love him, though I ask for him," from 'As You Like It,' to be found at the address below. The bottommost contains all the other good women's monologues from Shakespeare.

There is a wonderful one from Chicago when Roxie is singing the song 'Roxie'. It is a song, but you could speak it. Another good one is any monologue from 'Don Quixote' as Aldonza.
