Hers an idea...might be a dumb one, but might not! Depends on how unique you want to be. For starters...I love the name Nickolai! What is his middle name? Ok...back to the idea..sorry. Try using both.. Nickiy??? But to agree with everyone else...Y would be masculine...I would be feminine. Sorry sweetie!

Nicky for a boy-Nicki for a girl, but personally I would just go with Nick.

Sorry to prove you wrong, but Nicky is the male version while Nicki is the girl's version.
But there are really no set rules, so spell it however you want! :-)

I was always told that if a unisex name ended in Y then it was a boy. If it ends in I, then it's a girls name. Kinda like the name Bobby/Bobbi. Bobby=boy and Bobbi=girl. I know that these days though it doesn't really matter with the way people are starting to use unique spellings of children's names. You could just call him Nick for short......just a thought. Your husband's right, Nicky is the male spelling of the name. Sorry.

Nicki or nikkey is usually applied to the female gender
Nick nich or nic and nicky are associated with the male gender.
There is no hard and fast rule to this of course, but one has to think of the teasing done by siblings and peers at school about having a girls name if you select the wrong looking spelling. Sad but true just remember the boy named Sue!

Definitely not with an "i" at the end....that is most definitely the feminine version. I'd go with the "y" version...just like Tommy or Billy.
That said, I generally would just call him Nick, or even Nickolai, as you named him at birth. No matter how it's spelled, Nicky sounds like a girl's name.
