Corvette, hand down. If these two cars are your choice and you can afford either one, Vette wins.
Believe it or not, the Vette is not expensive to insure. It actually costs less than my Infiniti G35 that I had. The car has get up and go and can handle the twisty roads and you will enjoy it. So far I have not had one time I have driven the car that I have not enjoyed it!
It also is not a midlife crisis car, it is a car that people who can afford it, buy and enjoy. Is the Cadillac Escalade that people pay 20K more for a midlife crisis car? If the Vette is than I would expect the Escalade to be as well. Just because it is a sports car doesn't make it a mid-life crisis car, I am only 34 and I know of others who are much younger. There are also many other vehicles on the road that cost more than you can pay for a new Corvette, so for those people that say you must be made of money, point them to the large SUV that cost more than your car to both purchase and maintain.
Good luck with whatever choice you make. If you want to get some more information on the Corvette visit the Corvette Forum, you can gleam lots of information from there - forums.corvetteforum.com

Only you know exactly what you are looking for. Check both out at the dealers. Take test drives and ask questions.
I thought I wanted a Miata about 10 yrs ago. I ended up with a vette...not a new one but one that was cheaper, faster and a real sportscar...not a lady's car.
Corvette is not a Chevy. It is made for performance with a comfortable ride. If you're concerned about gas mileage, you should average about 21 mpg...maybe more.
Neither car will be cheap to repair after warranty expiration. Corvettes require a real corvette mechanic. Make sure the dealer sells a lot of them. You'll end up looking for a good mechanic later. I bought my vette from a large Chevy dealer but was advised by the service mgr NOT to bring it to them for service. Their vette mechanic had just retired! I suspect this may be the same for Miata but not sure.

If you can afford a Miata, chose that one. Its history is intriguing. There's a lot of development that went into the Miata compared to a Corvette. Depending on the accessories they both can be nice, but for comfort and horsepower the Miata is super smooth and responds well. Insurance is expensive for both. Maintenance for the Miata is more expensive because its an import. Return value on a Miata that's kept in mint condition is higher than a corvette. Miata has more status and was originally developed in the 1940's. Corvette was much later by the Chevrolet company. Corvette is nice but its more of a fancy midlife crisis car, Miata has more elegant style and exudes class with a sporty edge. Test drive both and pick whichever you feel more comfortable with.

well, Even though a corvette will cost more in most cases, It will also hold its value way better than the Miata. Also, I work On cars for a living and Can tell you first hand that a Miata is a Turd! Its a little peice of junk and most that have owned them don't keep them. They are very tight inside and not very comfortable to drive and Not nearly as safe to drive as a vette.Besides that If your going to spend money for a toy why not get what not only runs good and looks good but will be still worth close to what you paid for it in 10 yrs??

lets see.... miata has what 100 hp?.... the new vettes.... 500 hp.... the answer is clear. not only that . the corvette is a status symbol. anybody can buy a miata... they are cheap. the vette show style class, power and the ability to splurge and enjoy life. the vette is the second meanest car on the market next to viper. no other car can come close to it. the ride is 100 percent better in the vette. not only do you have power but you have luxary. the vette rides like a cloud. i wouldnt even question this, and spring for the vette. you will not be disapointed. it is a sat night racer and a sunday driver all rolled into one car.

At 56, the Miata won't be a good match. Corvette is more the look/style for you.
I'm with Darkmonster though - S2000 is good fun and a stylin' car to have.

This is one of those things that you need to decide for yourself. The biggest question though is how big of a person are you? I am 6'3" and would never fit in a Miata. I look like the Jolly Green Giant trying to drive a thimble. But if you have big feet like I do, then you want to stay away from the Vette as your feet will ALWAYS hang up on the pedals.

Miata is a little feminine. Corvette is a little unsophisticated.
I don't know.
I'd pick something else.
But if you want feminine, go Miata.
If you want muscle, go Corvette.
