Well, if you just forgot to ask him, then man-up, call him, say "dude, sorry. in the rush to get this going, I forgot to put your name on the list. But you're absolutely invited."

If you don't want him there, then tell him why (like perhaps it's a limited-space thing, or whatever). Don't lie and don't duck him. Be a man and be a friend and be straight with him.

Think about why you don't what the person there. If you feel like they will ruin your evening, then it might just be a good idea to not to invite them. You also might need to think about if this person is really your "friend" or not if you don't even what them at a party you're having. The important thing to remember is that is this is YOUR party and you deserve to invite whomever you want.

Why didn't you invite them? Was it on purpose like you really don't like them? then stop calling them a friend! Or if you just messed up and forgot or something, tell them that. A true friend will laugh at it with you, and if they're NOT a friend... who cares?
