update: I thought I was in labor this morning. I had bad pains, like a period pain, and hurt alot. I had a appointment at 11:00 and she checked my cervix and said..." making progress" what the heck does that mean????? she wouldn't tell me how many centimeters though. she just said "looks good" I am 38 weeks now, and last week I was 1cm dialated. I think she is not telling me because I may be very close, but she does not want me to get my hopes up? what do you think? close,,,,, just wishing,,,, what????!!!!

Sounds like what most of us went through waiting for that little chick to hatch! Hang in there, it'll all be worth it!

Well that happen to me 13 years ago and at that I had just turned 16. I was sent home & just had dialated 1 so finally my dad called the doc back after a week of nothing and she scheduled me to enduce labor. I guess it just depends on the doctor if they want to monitor you at the hospital or not. My doctor told my husband that the only reason she send me back was because you can be dialated to 3 and still last another days before the big day. Best of luck to you

you are freaking out for no reason. lots of women start dilating weeks even a month or 2 before going into active labor. i don't see why you did not ask her what "looks good" means but i do not think she is keeping anything from you. obviously she is telling you all is progressing good but she can not give you a day or time because nobody but God knows that info. i have never had period like pain when in labor but maybe that is what it feels like for you, i mean you have had other children so you should know that you are not in active labor until the contractions are consistent and getting stronger. just because your other children came early does not mean this one has to.

I'll tell you right now they will just keep sending you home even if you are having contractions and they are not 3-4 minutes apart. When I was pregnant with my first daughter. My water broke at home one night. I rushed to the hospital but still wasn't even feeling contractions, they sent me home and I had to return the next night. Also with my second daughter I was having bad contractions. I was timing them like I was supposed to and they were about 10 minutes apart. My water hadn't broken yet though. Once again i rushed to the hospital and they sent me home, but this time I was back in the hospital 3 hours later. I ended up being induced. I was annoyed as all hell. but hey hun it's what they do, so you may have to just deal with it for a bit. Hope things do go better for yout hough. Congrats!!!!

Yes i'm sure thats why she will not tell you....I am 39 weeks tomorrow and last tuesday my contractions started and the nurse at the hospital told me i was 1 centimeter dialated and my son will probably be here with a week...I def. got my hopes up and he is STILL not here...so I think it is better that way....It stinks waiting especially when everytime you turn around theres someone saying " your still here"....yes im still here!!!!! But hang in there...you wont be pregnant forever (even though it seems like you will) Good Luck!!

You have the right to know how many cm you are, your doc had no right to hold that info from you. Some people can dialate very slowly, so it's hard telling how far you are. Since you're 38 wks, that baby should be hear anytime between now & 42 wks (some docs let you go up to 2 wks after your due date).

Almost there! lol...everybody progresses at their own rate. No two women are alike. My friend didn't even know she was in labor until she got the urge to push...when she went to the hospital she was 8 cm! Trust your doctor, and your body. They usually say to call the hospital when your contractions are a minute long and 5 minutes apart...trust me....you'll want to spend as much time at home as possible before going to the hospital.

Be patient, I was dialated at 2 cm for four weeks. These things take time and you can't rush them. Your doctor has had lots of practice at this and knows what she's doing. When you have contractions, you'll know it. This is the hardest part, the waiting. Relax, have a cup of tea, and wait.

You probably are very close and that is why she didn't tell you. She mostly likely didn't want to get you anxious, which happened anyway. You could start walking vigorously, that always moves things along. I bet you will go into labor before Monday. I would put $$$ on it! Good luck!

I went into the hospital when I was 37 weeks along with my third because I had some period like cramping, and the lady sent me home with a diagnosis of complications of the uterus, whatever the hell that is, I was back 5 hours later and delivered a baby girl in 10 minutes...very close to having her on the freeway. My doctor ripped that nurse a new ***hole before sending her in to personally apologize to me.

Be patient. If this is your first baby you may not go until after 40 weeks. If you are only dialated a couple of cm you are not ready to go yet. I know you are tired of being pregnant but it will be worth the wait. Trust your physician.
