With the three-hour test, you go in, have your blood drawn, then drink the glucose. Then you'll wait an hour, have your blood drawn, wait another hour, have your blood drawn, then wait a third hour and have your blood drawn. It's a very long wait, so take some books to read, music to listen to, or some games. Oh, and be forewarned. The drink used for the three-hour test has twice as much glucose as the one-hour orange stuff and it is nasty. I almost couldn't get it down. Sip the solution through a straw to avoid guzzling it, and you shouldn't feel as nauseous afterward. And one more thing, you will be starving like crazy, so have a big meal planned afterward. I packed down twice the amount I normally eat.

Having been through this just a few weeks ago (I was GD Gestational diabetic)with my last 2 pregnancy's and am again this time) The original drink they give you has a lower glucose content then the one that they will give you this time, the will do a blood test on an empty tummy and after your drink they will do one every hour till your 3 hours are up, just to see how your body is handling the glucose that its been given.
The test results will show if you in fact have GD. If you do, as scary as it sounds its not the end of the world, if your readings are not to high you will be able to control your sugars with diet and exercise (mainly cutting down on carbs and cutting out sugars) if you need to take medication you will be required to have insulin injections, I take 4 a day and really its not so bad (I'm needle phobic) you will also be needing to do finger prick blood tests at least 4 times a day to keep a very close check on your sugar levels.
When baby is born, you can expect from GD babies higher birth weight, and possibly specialized treatment after they are born, they generally are born with a lower sugar level so need to be monitored closely.
My last 2 babies had this but are both perfectly happy and healthy. GD isn't a death sentence, and don't get to upset if you have it, just cross each bridge one at a time, and if you need to talk feel free to IM me. (IM details on my profile)

It is exactly the same thing as the one hour test only it is checked for 3 hours instead of 1. When you go in they will test your blood and then every hour for 3 hours after you drink your glucose drink. As you know, it is a test for gestational diabetes and only about 5% of pregnancies actually have the disease as most pregnant women pass the test. Good luck.

I'm doing this same test in a couple weeks. The doctor said that the 3 hour test is a more extensive test to see if you have gestational diabetes. They only do the three hour test if the 1 hour test came out on the high side. Good luck.

Follow what your OB says. The three hour test is because your one hour test came back too high... I did have the onset of Gestational Diabetes with my third child. It is the same procedure that you did before, but you will have a slightly stronger concentration to drink. MAKE SURE you don't eat anything or drink anything after midnight the night before because that can throw your test results off.... (I found that out the hard way too!) Don't panic about the test. it is more precautionary to be sure that you are not getting diabetes, but if you do have it believe me it isn't the end of the world... It will usually clear itself up after delivery! Good luck to ya!

Three hour blood glucose tests means you get to drink the glucose drink again. Only this time you will have blood drawn every hour for three hours, they'll take your blood three times. You're stuck there for three hours.

It is a test for gestational diabetes---a type of diabetes that occurs only in pregnancy. The test gives you a high dose of glucose to see if your pancreas can handle it. She is doing this probably to see if you are processing the glucose properly of if some other course of action needs to be taken.

Just that the sugar level in your blood was above normal and they need to double check it to see why. It's very common for women to develop diabetes during pregnancy and then go back to normal after baby is born. Try not to worry to much about it. It's good that your close to the end and they'll be able to safely treat you if there is a problem. Good luck. Love to hear how it goes.

Doesn't mean a thing. I got those results too and fretted HUGE! I thought i had gestation diabetes and everything was going to suck from here on out. Guess what? My second test everything came up normal.. it was just because i had breakfast before I went and what I ate messed the test up.

They need to test you for gestational diabetes. It is not uncommon in pregnancy, but has to be controlled. I believe you go in for this test without eating anything and they will do three tests this time instead of just the one. And yes, it is a three hour test. I hope this helps.
