The Treaty of Versailles was the peace settlement signed after World War One had ended in 1918 and in the shadow of the Russian Revolution and other events in Russia. The treaty was signed at the vast Versailles Palace near Paris - hence its title - between Germany and the Allies. The three most important politicians there were David Lloyd George, Georges Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson. The Versailles Palace was considered the most appropriate venue simply because of its size - many hundreds of people were involved in the process and the final signing ceremony in the Hall of Mirrors could accommodate hundreds of dignitaries. Many wanted Germany, now led by Friedrich Ebert, smashed - others, like Lloyd George, were privately more cautious.

The first world war.

From 1914 to 1918 there was this war in Europe and Africa. It is called World War I. At the end, the victors gathered in Versailles and made up their minds on the peace terms.
Those peace terms are the Treaties of Versailles.

You know... you should be more accurate in your question.

There are 8 Treaties of Versailles...

So, I'll answer your question for the 1783 one, just for the heck of it.

It is the name of the treaty that ended the independence war between the USA and the UK. I hope you know what led to that war...

The defeat of Germany and Austria in WWI.Germany has caused some wars numerous times before, and the treaty was supposed to have stopped Germany (or anybody else for that matter)from causing any more wars, but obviously it didn't work.Thanks.

Actually, it was signed in a box car at Versailles. Hitler after taking over France in WWII, blew up that box car.

WWI. It also was the predominant reason for the rise of Hitler and WWII. It was a vindictive treaty ... much of it to blame on the French.
