I'm a DJ as well, and I wish I had a dollar for every complaint I have received over the years. I have just always told them that I have to play some rock and then some Country, then some dance and to be patient, their favorite will be coming up. Now if they throw a Five dollar bill in the tip jar (I was a Club DJ at the time), their favorite came up a little faster, but that's another story.
Not much more to say. Oh, I wouldn't ever say "do it yourself" to anyone. I had a guy try to come back in my area once trying just that, and I am not letting anyone around my equipment.

Just say hey mate its what the bride asked for or its what the birthday boy requested. then they will take it up with them, or not cos its their special day.
