I know a guy who is 21 years old who is fixing to let his friends and family know he is gay. As far as his friends...ages 20 to 25...how do you who are in this age group feel if you find out someone that you know is gay and you never thought he was?

My experience, is that while in high school, one of my closest friends never gave me any reason to think other wise. We graduated high school, I went to the Marines, he to the Navy, 4 years later we got out, I became a cop in TX and he became a cop in CA, later he went federal and i soon followed after. We met for our high school reunion, and I brought my wife (ex now) and he brought his partner. I never knew, and it does not bother me, he knows where I stand and I know where he stands and we respect each other, and that does not change the fact we were close friends since 4th grade.. He did lose many so called friends, but to each his own. People are people, and as long as it does not effect you personally, people deserve to be happy, no matter what their gender. There are enough problems in this world to worry about , than to worry about who is in love with who. Good Luck and God Bless to you and your firiend.

Dont treat him any differently than you did when you thought he was straight. He is the same person.....he just likes boys instead of girls. He wont try and hit on you just because you are a guy.

He is going to need REAL FRIENDS at this time of his life.
Coming out of the closest has to be VERY HARD to do.

Watch the movie Sweet Home Alabama.......I know its a chick
flick, but one of the guys ends up being gay & you can see that
his friends still treat him the same...........after the initial surprised reaction.

It varies wildly.

A friend of mine in high school came out to my group of friends just before graduation. The basic gist of it was "anticlimatic". I let him know, in no uncertain terms, that anybody who really gave a **** about him already knew. He looked a little hurt and was all "but why???" and i told him "cuz you act like such a fag all the time!"

It was a cute moment, but i suspect it's not typical.
P.S. his mom 100% won't care unless she's a big church freak.

What I've found is this... non-smokers don't hang with smokers, and straight people don't hang with gays. Maybe not a hate thing, just each to their own. Sort of like how you seldom find non-drinkers at a kegger! Your gay frined may have to make some new friends.
