Personally, I don't think they should have any say on what you have on your page but it DOES put them in a bind as far as liability goes. What if a person's page had something offensive or derogatory to a potential client? It could be construed as representative of the company. And you know how lawsuit happy people are these days - any comment can be grounds for discrimination, harassment, etc.
If you love your job, you should take their name of your page and respect that they are looking out for their own behind.

I don't know what the law says and while I understand why you want to keep it on there, I also understand where the company is coming from when they say that. I would suggest you take it off because even if they can't make you, they can absolutely fire you, and you'd probably rather that section be blank on your MySpace page than say "Unemployed." It sucks, but it's probably not worth the trouble to fight them on it.

What is more important to you...paying your bills or defying your boss? Your boss has a right to protect the image of the company. If you have videos on your page that are questionable then you should not put your company's name on it. It is bad advertising on their behalf. People need to quit being so abrasive when it comes to the laws. Just becaue it is freedom of speech doesn't mean you are free to undermine your boss.

You do represent your company weather it is in an official capacity or not. And they can tell you to remove it. They own the rights to the company name, not you. They also choose who they employ and therefore who represents the company. If you as an employee are not representing it well then they can fire you and then you won't be able to embarrass them online intentionally or not.

If you work on ANYTHING while being paid wages by your employer, that material belongs to the EMPLOYER. It's called "proprietory"; you are being hired to produce income for the company, not amuse yourself at their expense. That's why so many companies in the USA are struggling with what is called production.

They have the right to tell you that yes. You represent the company and apparently they dont like HOW you are representing it. They can fire you for it.

yes. they can have it removed. and if you value your job you will remove it. they can fire you over that as insane as it seems. if you work at a company, you represent them. if they don't like the way you are representing them, they can do something about it.

i have a feeling that this is just a bogus threat. they may say that you have to keep where you work off your page, but they have no reason to make you. have you ever thought about removing your video's? then they'd have nothing to base their arguement on

Just mark your myspace page as private and then they can't view it without your permission.
