well for one, McAfee and Norton were going to charge me 60 bucks to get a refund for 49.99. Norton, and as far as i could find out, i got 2 worms and about 3 "backdoor-trojans" you know, the ones that open your pc to viruses more trojans and worms. McAfee, screwed me over because of a trojan the it didn't even pick up. so stupid me i opened the file, and you know what happened. i got AVG (free one) and it picked up the trojan that McAfee didn't. after that no more viruses.

all in all, 4 reformats and about 16 hours of hell and alot of bad english speaking customer service agents later. what's the best?

Really, all I'm asking from you is which is better? AVG, Norton, or McAfee?

I choose Norton, with McAfee coming in second. Norton is the best in my opinion.

Then my answer is definitely Norton. Spybot is a great addition to Norton. Be careful looking elsewhere though. Some offer Free Scans and even my old Granny could see that one coming from a mile away!! Can I sneak in and wonder if you have the CD's to wipe your PC down and start all over? Maybe you have already removed the bad programs too in your control panel? You can buy some inexpensive memory sticks to save your pictures or email or what you don't want to lose. It's so sweet to just wipe the slate clean and go to bed on it. Next morning, brand new start. Only thing left that hurts is asking for your refunds.
Good Luck!! @8=)

in my opinion, neither
the current best is kaspersky with a detection rate of 99%. it is also very light on resouces and does blazing fast scans. it does not bog down the system unlike norton. nod32 comes 2nd. in ur choices
1) AVG
2) Mcafee
and norton a lowly third

To be honest with you...they all kinda' stink. I haven't used an anti-virus program in about 3 years and haven't got a single thing yet (that caused any problems anyways). I think that the more anti-virus crap you have on your computer, the more you are going to get.

Seems like everyone I talk to that is having virus/trojan/worm/etc. problems, they are using an anti-virus program. What's funny is, they hardly do anything on the computer...I do just about everything and have 100x's less problems. Stick with the free stuff: Spybot Search & Destroy, Spywareblaster, Adaware, CrapCleaner, and RegCleaner (the last two just to clean-up junk on your HD).

I've used free AVG for 3 years, and it has worked like a charm. I highly recommend it, even over Norton. I also use free Zone Alarm for internet security, no problems.

I work in the IT department for a health authority, and all our tech guys highly recommend AVG over norton or mcafeee. I have been using AVG for years now without a problem.
