I have two full grown oscars. One is just over two years old, and pushing 14 inches. The other is about a year and a half, and somewhere around 12 inches.
Oscars are great fish, with a lot of personality. With time they will grow to recognize you and greet you at the front of the tank. Some can be taught tricks, and some can even allow their owners to 'pet' them.
Be warned as these fish are a HUGE committment because of their adult size and longevity. Like I stated, an adult oscar will easily reach a foot in length, and some can live more than ten years with proper care. Oscars also grow extremely fast, approaching 6-8 inches within their first year of life. Because of their fast growth, water quality is essential for the health of these beasts. Weekly water changes are a must for oscars to avoid diseases such as HITH, and Ich.
For five adult oscars, an aquarium of 240 gallons would be necessary for space requirements. (My two are in a 125 gallon aquarium) If you do not plan on upgrading to larger aquaria, I would take most of them back to the pet store. I don't mean to sound negative, infact, you may be happier with just one, as taking care of one won't be nearly as strenous, and you won't need to buy such large aquaria. (55 gallons minimum for one oscar). Also, being kept solo, an oscar will be more interactive, and responsive to you as the owner.
I hope this helps, without discouraging you. If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me! buglee38@yahoo.com

I had an Oscar his name was Dude. I'm glad to see you have 5 but I hope you have planned for their eventual size. My Dude was over 18 inches long and required a 55 gallon tank with 5 they will eventually need 275 gallons. They get hard to catch so before they get to large I would move them into the 275 tank. Dude was a blast he used to do his happy dance when I came home and would swim with his nose in the corner when I was sitting at my computer it was like he was reading everything I did. He loved earth worms, unhairy catapillars, salamanders, other fish, he had so much personality he is sorely missed. Good luck with your Oscars and watch for hole in the head disease Jungle makes a great tablet form of treatment for it that works great! The best cure is to never allow it to happen watch your water and clean your tank often!

No but I hear they are awesome fish with fun personalities! Only downside is they're aggressive and'll eat almost anything smaller than them... or even bigger, in some cases... :P
