Why do some people think that Latinos and blacks on here are poor?

I'm not saying that we're millionares, or anything like that, but we're most likely not poor if we can afford computers.

See, a CERTAIN PERSON mentioned that I only earn minimum wage and that I'm poor.

And when I do start to work I will earn minimum wage, since I am a teenager who might get a summer job.

Computers, and internet. And I'm not sure but don't people need a fast connection to go on here. TONS of stuff needs to load.

They said that b/c you're black or Latina? Why's that a stereotype of us? Probably b/c at one point it was largely true.

And whoever this certain person was maybe the ONLY thing s/he has "over" other people is money, so that's what s/he uses against people. As for whether you really are poor or not. To some people the truth doesn't matter. Let them think what they want.

Think of it this way: money doesn't buy class.

It does not take much money to have a computer good enough to get on the Internet. In Santa Cruz, the Grey Bears accepts donated computers, fixes them up and sells them cheap. And a lot of people who get a new computer routinely donate their old one to someone who can use it. So having a computer does not mean you are not poor. It probably means you are doing well enough to pay your electric bill, but that's about all. And plenty of people are on battery-powered lap-tops, or computers at school.

If your question was the implied racism, you didn't seem to stick to that topic. I have not noticed all that much racism, but I keep telling them off (and reporting them), as appropriate, when I see them.

I am sorry to hear that people still "pre-judge" people in a time when we have made great strides and laws for equal respect and opportunity, but they do.

As a teenager, you are expected to start at a low salary until enough time passes and you have proven yourself worthy of your first raise, and so on. If you are happy with your lifestyle, then celebrate your heritage! Please don't let a few backwoods, trashy users make you feel inferior. They don't represent everyone, they certainly don't represent God's image.

Thinking that blacks and Latinos are poor...That's something called a sterotype. People like to make generalizations to excuse themselves from associating with or befriending people unlike them, whether by race, financial class, or whatever they can think of.

b/c they are ignorant.And if they believe that then they need a reality check.They also need to take in account that as soon as we try to get better jobs we have people complaining and trying to take those jobs away b/c minorities are trying better themselves.

Because those people are ignorant. I know plenty of whites who are poor & on welfare.
