There is a mthod of taking ones temperature first thing in the morning to find out the peak of fertility. Starting from the 3rd day post period log your morning temp on a chart right ip to the next period. 4 days before and 4 after the peak are the best times to conceive. But despite this piece of technical wisdom some woman can become pregnant at any phase of the cycle.
Your gynacologist can give you guidance also by doing some simple tests.

Most women ovulate 14 days before their peiod. Sperm can live up to 5 days, and the egg is good for 24 hours. So your fertile days are 5 days before you ovulate, the day of, and the day after. So if you have a 30 day cycle your fertile days would by day11-day 17, with day 1 being the first day of your period.

There is a chance of getting pregnant at any time throughout your cycle.... but if you're looking to conceive, try 9-11 days after the first day of your last period.

It mainly depends on what cycle length you have. For example if its 26 you will subtract 14 from that and get what cycle day you wil ovulate, which would be 12. Having intercourse 2 days before ovulation day and the day of ovulation will increase your chances.

I'm pretty sure it's 11 days before and after your period. Check on babycenter.com, they're pretty good.
