hey, my baby is due on monday (15th jan) and tonight (11th jan) i have been getting a sharp pain that feels like it is going right up my vagina then it kinda spreads out around my tummy, just after that my tummy goes all tight, has anyone else experienced this as i really dont know what it is and i dont want to phone the labour ward up and feel a complete idiot, this is my first pregnancy, i think it has to be the hardest thing trying to work out if you are in labour or not as i have no clue, when my mum was pregnant with me she was told she was having contractions (she was put on a monitor thing cuz i was being difficult) but she could not feel anything, its just so confusing.

Those sound like contractions, either braxton-hicks or real. Keep track of the time apart, length, and intensity. If they increase in any of these, you might be in labor.
The time you should shoot before knowing it's labor is a consistent 15 minutes apart; the length of contraction is 45 to 90 seconds; and the intensity...well, you'll know if they are hurting more.
If you are planning on having an epidural, decrease these estimates just a little and call your doctor or head to the hospital. A trip to the hospital can never hurt (unless you are self-pay), and the worst thing the doctor can do if you are not in labor is send you home.
Congrats and Good Luck.

If you are in any doubt at all, ring the labour ward - they're there to help YOU and won't make you feel stupid. Check the timings of your pains - although with my first my contractions were every five minutes (and I was less than 3 centimetres dilated) and it was only right at the very end that they came closer together. Every body is different though, and every pregnancy is different. Good luck.

Does sound like your in the first stages of labour, everyone's different though, don't worry about phoning the labour ward that's what they are there for, if you're worried phone them. Good luck & let us know, can you hang on till the 15th cos it's my Birthday!! It's gonna be a lovely Capricorn baby.

well i think you may be in labour and it is best to go to the labour ward than have your baby at home. my first baby - I had a similar experience and nearly had my baby at home because i had percipitate ( V. fast labour) with just about the same pains you have. with my next 3 pregnancies I go as soon as I feel any thing. Prevention is better than an accident- delivery in the car or home or in the toilet!!. Everyone will forgive you ( bcos its a 1st pregnancy) if you go early than late. Happy labour!!

Yes, its a very normal pain your feeling! Its baby pushing down (and hopefuly coming out soon!! )
Don't worry about sounding like an idiot - we all do at some stage.
I didn't know i was in labour with my second - and here's me thinking i'm a smart a55 and i know what i'm talking about cause i've done it before...HA!!
Rest asure, it sounds like everything is going to plan.
Good Luck!!!
And remember... Don't be scared!
Its like going to the dentist...you don't really want to go but you know you have to and when your sitting in that chair you realise it won't go on forever! There is an end and its getting closer...

Lol, i became somewhat an same, yet with my daughter my waters broke 6 days early so I knew it became the genuine problem, then with my son I had to be triggered so i became given hourly updates on my progression, lol. regardless of the indisputable fact that the full very last month in both my pregnancies each and every twinge or Braxton hicks or weird and wonderful feeling I were given in my abdomen i assumed "OMG this possibly it". Paranoid, regardless of the indisputable fact that that's ok, truly in case you have not had youthful ones, or perhaps once you've you ever nonetheless do not quite recognize because no labour is going an same way, and if it does then you truly are rattling fortunate. wont be lengthy now, solid success.

Sounds like you are either having contraction or braxton hicks. Either way it is normal and can be painful. You should go to the hospital immediatley if your water breaks, or the contractions become five minutes apart consistantly. Braxton hicks usually are not steady contraction and vary in lengthy and severity. Good luck, and may God bless you and your new baby.

It could just be pregnancy pains, you get lots of them, i used to get shooting pains all the time. You'll know when your in labour, you ususally get a show or your waters break. If the pains keep coming and get worse ring your labour ward.

Good luck!!

Could be labour...don't feel like a moron...how are you supposed to know. Phone them and tell them and find out if you are in labour. The may ask how long they are lasting and how far apart they are.
