The "best" of anything is so subjective, it's really a futile question. Why not ask about a "really good" or "great" recipe, restaurant, etc. etc. etc.?

Because it is just easier to ask for the best. Tell me, would your answer really change if someone were to ask you "What is the best BBQ restaurant?" or "What is a really good BBQ restaurant?" Actually, both questions are subjective. When I ask these questions, I understand I am only asking for an individual's opinion, and nothing more. But your point is well taken.

I used to work in a toy store, and from that experience I can tell you there is no such thing as an average child. They way the parents talked, they gave birth to the genuises of the universe. Nobody in America wants an "okay" or "average" anything. And yet...someone is buying all those crappy frozen pizzas, right?

you always want the best available.
i mean do you want the best spouse for you or not.
in a job interview wouldn't you always select the best candidate?
why pick second choice?
that's how it works. i want the best school for my kids.
the best doctor for my surgery.
etc.
