Real plants are a challenge and a good indicator if there is something wrong with your aquarium. I've had plants live a long time then suddenly die and when I look at the ph and ammonia levels find there is a problem I was unaware of and was able to correct before my fish died. Fresh water plants absorb nutrients from the water some the products your fish give off and put oxygen back into the water. It is a part of the delicate ecosystem of your tank. I used to keep them because they made my tanks look so beautiful but stopped because when they die they cause such a problem in my tanks with the rotting vegetation. I also had to provide food for the plants in the form of a special fertilizer especially at first. Read about aquatic plants it is the best determiner if you want to bother with them or not. I think they add to the aquarium but that is my personal preference! Good luck.

The plants would use the poop from the fish as nutrients so would help rid the tank of an ammonia problem and would provide more oxygen for your fish. Also, natural plants look very beautiful. They'd keep your tank cleaner.

I kept fresh water fish for years and never used fresh plants. It's a personal choice and not required for your tank. Some fish will eat them and you'll have to keep replacing them.

It gives Oxygen to the fish, they need oxygen in the water to help them stay healthy, the plants give them oxygen.
The plants keep the water airated, and this makes your fish live longer :)

Hope this helped.

The main benefit and reason someone uses live plants, besides aesthetics, is their ability to help control algae. The live plants use up nutrients that would otherwise be consumed by ugly algae

plants help level out the ph and carbon dioxide levels in your water. if you know how to grow plants i think the live ones look better but if you don't know what you are doing fake plants look better than dead plants.

It isn't necessary, but live plants look good, improve oxygen levels, and can reduce algae.
