Rub the wax with an ice cube to harden it. Then place wax paper over the spot and use a hot iron over the wax paper to lift the wax up onto the wax paper and out of the carpet.

Instructions
STEP 1: Scrape away as much wax as you can.
STEP 2: Place a sheet of butcher paper, glossy side up, or a portion of a brown paper bag on top of the wax.
STEP 3: Press the tip of a warm iron gently over the affected area until the wax melts and attaches to the paper.
STEP 4: Lift the paper from the carpet.
STEP 5: Dab a small amount of denatured alcohol onto the stain if any candle dye is left on the carpet.
STEP 6: Sponge with water.
Tips & Warnings
Try not to let the iron touch the carpet, as it may leave scorch marks.

If the candle wax is caked fairly thickly onto the carpet go to step 1. If it isn't very thick, skip to step 2.
1. Gently scrape some of the wax level down. (You can do this carefully with a heated vegetable peeler, knife, etc...)
2. Now you need a dry iron set to an appropriate setting (all irons are different) and lots of craft paper, or lots of paper towels, or lots of old t-shirts that you're using for rags, or old paper grocery bags.
3. Once the iron is to temperature, lay whatever you are using to absorb the wax, directly over the wax (paper, t-shirt, paper towels, etc.) Gently iron over the absorbent layer--continuously moving the absorbent layer to a clean position. NOTE: KEEP THE IRON MOVING ALSO--YOU DON'T WANT TO SCORCH/MELT YOUR CARPET!!
4. Be patient, step 3 can take a long time--depending on the size of the area covered with wax and the thickness of the wax spill.

ALSO, if there is just a tiny bit of wax on your carpet, you may want to let it set and then just peel it up--be careful, you can peel up carpet fibers or tufts of carpet with this method. (Really depends on the type of carpet)

There are commercial products that remove wax. I would not recommend these unless you have a very, very, dark/blue/green, etc... carpet. (Most contain an oil that can stain your carpet. However, the oil stain would probably be easier removed than the wax.)

Spread a brown paper bag over the hardened wax, and iron the bag with a warm iron. The paper will absorb the wax. Get more tips on this site..
