single part paints are generally not corrosive or reactive. We did our fibreglass boat with Rylard paints but International would also have worked.

Rylard lasts for years

Not knowing what paint is on there makes it more difficult, but as long as it is adhered well to the fiberglass you should have no problem. Check out these marine paint companies:
www.awlgrip.com
www.pettitpaints.com
www.internationalpaints.com
all make great marine paints just for fiberglass. As long as you take the time to prep the surface according to instructions your boat will look as good as new.

I have been told I cannot "paint" my fiberglass boat, but must have it "gelled". Fiberglass "gel" is what they used to color your boat. Talk to a marine repair shop. There are shops that ONLY re-gel fiberglass boats. It is not that expensive, and I have been told it works MUCH better on boats then painting does, because of the amount of "flexing" a boat does as it goes through the water. (especially in rough water!)

It would be alot easier to have the gel coat on the boat polished, or just find a GRP specialist and ask them if they can re coat the gel coat.
Best thing to do is go and ask some one in a boat yard for some advice as they can tell you what you need to do .

It's alot easier if you can see the boat .
