During the 1920-1933 period Germany suffered much worse than America. In Germany there was no growth period during the first half of the twenties. And the crash hid Germany harder than America.
During that time Hitler promised a better an brighter future. He offered a chance to undo the unjust things that came from WWI.
And he gave the people somebody to blame. The Jews and the international moneymakers, who where mostly Jews anyway.
There was also some violence to suppress the opposition within his own party. And when he came to power he used every tool in the "mad-dictator-toolbox".

Even though some Germans did not agree on all with Hitler, the majority of Germans, on the main issues including discrimination, dictatorship and conquest were profoundly in agreement. That is German character.
Hitler represented the resentment, sense of injustice and despair of all Germans after their defeat in World War I , and Hitler readily and well packed, offered solutions to all their problems
so it was easy for Germans to see the future the way Hitler did, letting themselves be led by their leader.
Wishfully thinking, Germans thought, If they could get away with it, the better for them.
Until they crashed head on against reality.

i dont know much, but i'll take a guess.... hitler was saying the the Blond, Blue eyed human was the "supreme race" and that any other is less important.
how would u feel if someone came up and said that ur race was the best ever, and that u need to do something about it? get a few crazy people who actually think that racism and segregation is the way to go, and u get a mass cultural revolution of zombies who believe the few crazies.
that's why it's so important to not go along w/ the rage or the masses until u truly understand what's going on....

He took a country that was poor and depraved (after wwI) and offered them hope. He created jobs, improving economic stability. He rebuilt monuments, increasing national pride. He used local myths and legends and bent them to his will, stressing the importance of Germany's devine right. He was the peoples leader. Someone the common people could relate to. Hitler offered a solution to Germany's problems. He put blame on foriegn interests. The demise of the country was now focused on a select group of people. This made sense to the masses, this gave them an outlet for their frustrations. This gave them hope.

That's the million dollar question, isn't it. There are of course no simple answers, but it think part of the truth is that he told them what they wanted to hear.
That is; that they where superior, someone else was responsible for their problems, the government was in control, and that if they stayed quiet, everything would be taken care of.
This begs the question, why did the American people so readily accept George W. Bush? what are the things he says that we want to hear but might not be true?

Because WW One left Germany weak, and the people were looking for a strong leader. Plus, Hitler used mass propaganda and lies to attract support.

the same reason we accept how bush bought the election; general ignorance, ennui, special interests, plus the fact that you could easily disappear back then from the secret police.
