My closest friend ended up having a baby around the same time as me. Her little boy is now 6 months old and weighs nearly 30 lbs. He wears size 12-18 months in pants and size 18-24 months in tops. He can barely roll over, has had a respiratory infection since he was 2 months, won't eat solids at all, doesn't show any facial emotions whatsoever. Could there be something wrong with him?? I am not making fun of him in any way, I just think that my friend is in deep denial and should have him checked out. Can anyone relate to this????

My daughter is 7 months. She weighs 17 lbs, still wears size 3-6 months. She can crawl, pull up on furniture, she has a very funny personality, always happy, never sick. She is all around a healthy baby. I am just concerned for my friend and her son.

Ok, to Shelty K. First of all, I am not butting in. She is my best friend and has been for 10 years. I am trying to help her because there could be something wrong with her child. Stepping aside and letting this happen to someone close to me would make me a bad friend and could be dangerous for the baby. It is better to figure it out sooner than later.

I am thinking that you are absolutely right to be worried about it! I don;t think that his size is an issue, necessarily, but the fact that he shows no emotions whatsoever could definitely mean a developmental issue. Most of them can be corrected if caught soon enough- so she should definitely talk to her pediatrician as soon as possible.

Ohh my! interfering friends and neighbors!

Let the family manage and bring up their own child in the way they want to. If she is in denial so be it it is not your place to play doctor, psychiatrist or any other role, other than a friend who gives support when it is asked for.
Butt out and get ojn with your own child rearing responsibilities. Keep interfering or making comments or what you think are good friend suggestions and that friendship will be over faster than you can say jackass!
There are lots of children who are large for their age, due to genetics or poor diet or some medical problem.
I would think that she would be having regular clinic visits with the child anyway and maybe even knows her child is different to the so called norm.

She doesn't need to have someone else point it out to her and pile on the guilt or whatever emotions she has about this child. Get on with youir own life and mind your business

sounds like that boy needs to go to his peditrician right away. you are a good friend and if she does not want to take him and be in denail...then you take him...for the baby's sake...I have 2 kids...8 year old daughter who never came close to weighing that much and she was 9 pds, 4 and a half ounces when she was born...and my son is 11 months old now and he weighs 19.4 pounds and is in a size 9-12 months.

no, i can't relate to this at all.
my son is big for his age, but not that big.

what does her dr say?? does she take the baby in for well baby visits?? she should have one about now at 6 months.

ask her how her 6 month well baby visit went. be chipper and up beat and interested. then, if she said it was fine ask her how the doctor reacted to such a big boy!!!

take care.

That little boy sounds like he is huge!!! I'm sure being that big would keep him from developing his crawling and sitting skills. Some kids are just really placid.... so very vibrant. It sounds like he has had a rough start... I hope things start improving for them.

It may be possible that he has Down's Syndrome.
