I really want to know what the point of the war is. I mean I haven't really heard exactly why we're there right now and I just want to know what everyone else thinks the point of America being in the war is. I'm not choosing sides or anything, I just really want to know because I see/read about all this money being put towards the war that could be used to help Americans. From what everyone else says we're just trying to help another country with it's government and spending all this money towards that by helping the troops.

well, I do feel like America is being kinda nosy and we're trying to get them to change their government. Why did we choose democracy, because it works for us? I mean there are other governments that work besides that and it seems like we're sorta imposing our government on them, even if they accept it.

I really did ask the question because really too many people on here are getting hooke on left side and right side. I tend to lean on the liberal side with a lot of issues but I like some of the other side's views. Everyone else who talks about Iraq criticizes the other party because they want everyone to die or they hate the troops or whatever. I don't see the point in bashing someone else to prove your point.

It's a war on oil, er, I mean terror. That's it, terror.
What I want to know is since when has it become necessary to step in and force democracy upon a country that neither wants it nor is ready for it. Let them fight their own damn civil war while we utilize our troops and our resources on our own problems.

depends who you ask. Oil, war profiteering, distracting the public to slide questionable legislation through such as the Patriot Act (read up on the patriot act in Behold A Pale Horse - it's freakin scary, we're two breaths away from a Police State!). Currently, we're still in Iraq because we created such a mess in our haste to shock and awe that they're basically embrioled in a civil war and have no functioning democratic government to hand power over to. We can't just up and leave, so W wants to send 21,500 more soldiers over there to possibly die. With the ways we're pissing the rest of the world off, I'd pack a bag for Canada - I feel a draft!

Unfortunately, wars have been a fact of life since the beginning of time...and will be until the end of the world as we know it.
Power hungry leaders (Hitler, Napoleon, Alexander, Caesar just to name a very few)...the need for raw materials (The Japanese for WWII)...politics (our own Civil War)...religion (just look at the Muslims today...the extremists that seem to be running too many of their countries, believe that all non-Muslims should be killed...and they are trying their best to achieve that)...land (our own history of our wars against the Native American Indians)...and the reasons can go on and on.
Just take a look at Africa and count how many wars on going on, on that one continent right now and it will blow your mind. You'll be hard pressed to find 6 African countries, not involved in a war. They are all wasting their natural resources at an alarming rate.
You are right, it's too bad that the money spent on war could go to a peaceful use, but things have always been the same and will continue.

Well you have to go back to how it came to be we are there is the first place. We got in and arrived on a lie, a belief but a lie.
Now everything since has been nothing but a tertiary effect to stay. Now that the truth has come to light and we have been unable to do the job as thought we don't know how to back out or retreat.
Suni's and Shites have been warring with each other four times longer than we have been a nation. Think about that!

The point of all war is they have it, someone else wants it.
You are right about the money... We could have healthcare for every man, woman and child in the US instead of just for immigrants. The minimum wage for the few jobs that haven't gone offshore could be raised. Homeless families might get some help.
It's all up to us. We do it with our vote.

Your president is getting revenge for the work his father started but could'nt finish back in the '80's. It's supposed to be about terrorists but I think not. Could also have something to do with getting the oil.
