The last time England qualified for that designation the Germans were dropping bombs on London.

I don't believe it is - too much crime and violence; overcrowding and not enough facilities and services for the people that live here; many people are poorly educated; too much waste of natural resources and too much creation of pollution and rubbish ... need I go on? I am a Londoner so yes, I'm sure I see some of the worst things about the country but then I go to places like Norfolk or the Midlands where I have family and it doesn't really seem to be any better.

BUT I would like to believe that it could be a great nation. All the problems I've mentioned are things that I think could be fixed relatively easily, certainly not overnight but within say 10-15 years. The problem is that the government doesn't live in the real world and don't even seem to know what problems the average English person faces. If they don't know what the problems are, they certainly cannot go any way towards addressing those problems.

That said, no-one will ever be able to do anything about the crap weather. :-)

I don't think so. England is really just a part of the UK which is great because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. England may have achieved the most within the group but Scotland, Wales, Northern Island, Mann and all the other parts of the UK have all been important to the UK.
As an Englishman I think that England is a decent nation but the UK is a fantastic one.

I think the country is now too over run to ever regain control and become a great nation again - it will only become great for anyone who is not or does not descend from original, true, white generations of Britons!!!

I too am off to Oz once my degree is finished, members of my family are already moving over within the next few months. Im sick of being a second rate citizen in my own country.
I HATE labour and I HATE that d**k head ken livingston!!!!

England was the greatest nation and the true English person who goes back a few generations are still people to be proud of.
However, thanks to this pathetic weak government we are quickly being overrun by the dregs of the world and soon there won't be any England let alone a country to be proud of. It's a bloody tragedy.

Private (above) has some good views, though the swastika puts me off a bit!

I would say Great Britain used to be great but isn't so great now.
Too much booze, drugs, illegals, trash TV and FFS we've got Chavs. You can't blame Labour for all those things.

Can it be great again you ask. I am sceptical.

I think most would agree that Blair has took the bulldog out of britain and replaced it with ken livingstone.

Blair's surrendering Northern ireland, surrendering Gibraltar and surrendering every penny we work for to the treasury ,so that brown doesnt have to hide the black hole hes created in the economy with smoke and mirrors anymore.

Its going to be difficult to get the toothpaste back into the tube ,but it starts with getting these egotistical, power mad ,incompetent tyrants out of office.

making britain great again!
whos with me?
