1. text messaging prices
2. network coverage where I travel
3. contract length
4. discounts for where I work (if they are available)
5. activation and cancellation fees and buyer's remorse period.

I know that minute plans are pretty equal across the board, so I could care less about that. Text messaging prices are not and I LIVE off of text messaging. Most people want one year contracts. a lot of folks don't know this, but Sprint, Nextel, Verizon, and Cingular (maybe even TMobile) offers service discounts for people when they are employed by certain compaines. They are not obligated to tell you this. So you NEED to ask. Military usually gets a 15% discount anywhere (19% with Cingular) off of your monthly bill. And lastly, if I get pissed at them and want to cancel, how much it's going to cost me when I'm in contract and how long do I have to change my mind on the phone, plan, and service?

Hope this helps!

I always choose the Orange Network so that I can get half price cinema tickets on a Wednesday. Apart from that I go for design and ease of texting but probably not a lot else.
