I am looking for a clerical job in the chicago suburb area, but using career buider and monster.com is really frustrating me. There seem to be so many jobs, but almost every single one turns out to require staffing co. interviews. They're really tricky about it, b/c unless you know names of staffing co.'s, you don't realize you are getting a general interview with them and not the direct employer. They make sure not to tell you what they are until you show up for an interview either. Anyway, is there a way to block them out when job searching? Is there another place to look for jobs that has not been taken over by them?

Have you tried job websites like Hotjobs and Craigslist? You could also search for jobs using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. More information at http://tinyurl.com/emdyn

Go straight to a company job site. Most major companies have them.

I know agencies can be frustrating, but if you get in with a good one...they can get you the best jobs with the best companies and it doesn't cost you anything....and in some cases free training to update your skills is available.

In CareerBuilder and a few others in your advanced search you can indicate direct companies...which should weed out the agencies.

Try your local free employment circulars. Or even find the newspaper's online classified and search there.

Wow, in less than 8 years job hunters have completely forgotten the newspapers?

Oh yeah, tell every single friend you have that you are looking, there might be openings in their companies.

Good luck
