According to the wikipedia entry on belts "men usually insert the belt through the pant loops in a counter-clockwise manner (as if looking upon from above), while women tend to insert the belt through the pant loops in a clockwise direction.". I've got a question, does this really matter? Does anyone care?

probably a stupid question but I'm bored

I don't think there is any social convention saying that men and women have to insert the belts a certain way. I think wikipedia just made an observation. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone. Just to show, I'm a girl and I always insert my belt counterclockwise.

Nope, it doesn't matter. Who's gonna be checking out your belt to see how you put it on? As long as it's holding up your pants and they make your outfit look good, then thats all that should matter.

it really doesn't matter.. like honestly.. who cares??? i don't even pay attention to which way the belt is going! i think it just goes along with how women's clothing and men's clothing contain buttons on different sides... maybe each sex is just accustomed to buttoning/belting up in a particular direction?

Now that you mention I do insert clockwise.....counter clockwise drives me crazy and I have to do it over again...go figure.

If you notice on a woman's shirt, the buttons are on the opposite side too. I've heard this is because women in the old days used to have dressers and it was easier for them to button them whereas men dressed themselves. I think it makes it easier for us men to undress them, and we can undress ourselves just fine when it comes down to it.

No, unless the buckle itself has text on it. Infact, I wear my belts over cartigans right above my hipbones [more of a fashion statement than a device used to hoister up my pants].
