Yeah, that's how you get a mule, but it has to be done a certain way.

It usually has to be a female horse and a male donkey. Most horses are larger than donkeys, so if a donkey was carrying a horse's offspring, then the donkey would most likely die during pregnancy or delivery because the fetus would be much to big for the womb/birth canal.

I guess it would be possible with a large donkey and a small horse, too.
