I've heard that it can lead to too much water on the brain and this is lethal. However you'd have to drink a vast amount!
Here are the facts I found from Reuters:
"pushing fluids by mouth or intravenously, can prompt the brain or the lungs to swell," - so that explains how you can drown with swollen lungs and brain as you'll find out from reading this article about the deaths of some athletes due to this.

Not "drown" in the usual sense. To drown, water must enter your lungs, not your stomach. However, drinking too much water can be lethal, usually by causing kidney failure. In a sense, your cells and tissues "drown" because the body cannot eliminate such an overabundance of water. You would have to drink quite a few gallons a day in order for this to occur however, assuming your kidneys are healthy to begin with.

I drank a Big Red and a gallon of water in 5 minutes one time on a dare. I threw up pink water every where, then about 30 minutes later my whole body cramped up.
Obviuosly no you won't drown, because you can breathe, but I've heard it can kill you, if you drink too much.

No, ingesting it causes water to flow the intestinal tract. Drowning occurs from both fluid contained in the lungs or bronchospasms which avert oxygen variety shifting into the lungs. in spite of the undeniable fact that, there is one of those ingredient as water intoxication, that may kill someone from ingesting too a lot water. they do no longer drown, yet drink a lot water that the electrolytes are leached from the device, causing cardiac arrest and absence of life

A person drowns from water when they can't breath anymore and the water is going into their lungs. Not cause they drink it and it goes thru their digestive system. Who told you this obsurd comment?

believe it or not, YES. It is a phenomenon called HYPERHYDROSIS. You don't actually die by exploding or anything like that. The reason you would die, is that the salt balance in your body would be thrown off. Sodium (main component of salt) is very important in for example the nervous system, and also in blood circulation, if the salt concentration were to be diluted to below a sustainable level, then you would simply stop functioning and you would eventually die. There are not many recorded cases of this actually happening, but it has happened. Similarly, completely denying someone any source of salt in their diet will kill them, it works on a similar principal....
Hope this helps!

One possible scenario, too much water is consumed and the victim passes out or falls asleep. If the person regurgitates or vomits into the lungs, then he or she could drown!

If you drink to much water you can draw out all the salt from your body, and you need salt in order to send electrical singnals through your brain and body. So it can kill you, but it's not drowning.

If it's forced, yes.
If it's not, it's impossible to drown from drinking too much water.
You just end up too full to go on and then you end up peeing quite a bit and whew... what a cleanse.
I mean, look at those people who gorge themselves with eating too much, now there's a way to die.

They actually had somthing like this on mythbusters, they tried filling a pig stomach with liquid to see if it would explode, it did eventually but it was with more stuff then you could drink in one day so you probably wouldn't drown either.
