Hey, I've been there. I'm 22 and just started wearing heels regularly a little while ago. I love the look, but never got around to learning to wear them. I started with medium height ones and just wore them as much as I felt comfortable doing for a while, then got some slightly higher ones. So far I'm at 3 1/2 inches (I have some pretty pointy ones), and I'm reasonably confident in them. Plus they make me feel sexy, which doesn't hurt. As soon as I'm completely used to them, I'm going higher :) Good luck, and enjoy :)

practice practice practice! I got my first pair when I was 17 or so and walked all around the house on the carpet in them until I could sorta run from one end to the other. Try to keep most of your weight on the balls of your foot, not your heel, to prevent the heel from skittering out from under you and twisting your ankle. Put a mirror at one end of the hall too, so you learn to walk like Grace Kelly and not Rosie O'Donnell. Nothing funnier to me than seeing a beautiful woman wearing stilettos and stomping around like she's wearing Timberlakes.
You might also get some of those grippy things you put under the sole of your shoe so that if you hit a slick wooden floor, your feet don't go flying out from under you.

If you insist on wearing heals, remember that you
are DAMAGING your legs. You're injuring muscles
and tendons and generally doing slow, unreversible
damage.
That's OK. There are lots of things that we do to ourselves
that cause damage, but it helps if we do them in small
doses and otherwise try to be good to our bodies. When
do you want to wear heals? When you don't want to, can
you be wearing something else? For instance, if you are
going to work, can you get away with wearing sneakers
on the way to and from while wearing the stilettos when it
will ... uh ... do you the maximum good?
If you need to be wearing stilettos for an hour, you should
be wearing something else otherwise - do not spend 8 hours
when you only need to be spending an hour, etc.
Its not as bad as smoking, but you are trading healthy
walking time when you are older for it. Make sure that what
you get from it is worth it.
Seriously - these things are the source of considerable
cash for orthopedic doctors. They're certainly more money
in the long run than, say, skate boards. Just keep that in
mind.

I love heels, I think they are ultra femme but I swear the cutest ones seem to be stillettos!! One thing that helped me with heels period was dance training where we had to get on releve' ((basically up on your tipy-toes)) and walk around on releve', do everything on releve'. This can help build up your calves and get your legs used to being at that elevation.
Another thing I like to do is walk around in my heels while in the privacy of my home, doing everyday things, like surfing the net, eating breakfast, cleaning the bathroom, watching TV, et. This gets your feet and legs used to the the walking and stopping and sitting and walking and pacing we do in everyday life. This is also a good way to break the shoes in. The way I see it, its better to bust your butt at home in heels you cant walk in, that to wear them in public without no previous practice. Practice makes perfect, so WORK IT GIRL!! HAVE FUN!! GOOD LUCK!!

The calf muscle is essential here. I would walk around your house in them, concentrate on walking on the balls of your feet when you are not wearing them at home too, kindof like ballet, you will gain your balance that way, and when it comes to wearing the shoes, it will be easier for you.

I always find it's easier when I make sure to throw my hips forward so I'm not lurching forward at the waist. And, like everyone else says, practice!
