Packages usually explain it to you (like wacky mac or Kraft)

There's a couple things you need to know about making Mac and Cheese. The first is that the suggested ingredient amounts may vary. Measuring the amount of water is unnecessary as you only need enough to contain the noodles you're boiling. The amount of butter or margerine will vary by taste as the amount of milk. The suggested amount of milk tends to make soupy M&C. With practice you'll learn how much you actually need.

Also, unless you're a hearty eater, a whole box of Mac and Cheese may be too much for one sitting. As leftover M&C tastes horrible, I'd suggest making only half a box at a time.

When you've got the basics down, then you can start experimenting by adding additional ingredients such as carmalized onions and cooked ground beef.

Best of luck. May I also suggest the Kraft brand of Mac & Cheese? I've heard good things about it over the years, not to mention it tastes so much better than cheap, generic brands.

Well, it depends. If you're making it from the box then just boil you some water in a saucepan. While it's boiling add the macaroni. Stir well, until tender. Drain. Add the cheese from the box and about 1/3 cup of milk. Stir till desired. If you're making it from scratch, then boil the water in a saucepan. Add macaroni and stir while boiling (during this time melt cheese-I prefer Velveeta). Boil until macaroni is tender. Drain. Add desired melted cheese. Stir. Place in oven on 300 for 5-10 minutes (Until baked).

Seriously? By a box of mac and cheese. put water in a pan and place on stove. Boil water then pour in noodles. Make sure to keep the package of cheese out. Boil noodles for about 7-8 minutes. remove from stove and dump out water in strainer. Add package of cheese, about 1 TBS butter and a little bit if milk. Stir and voila, mac and cheeese. I like to put sugar in mine also. Yum Yum.

1/2 pound elbow macaroni
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon powdered mustard
3 cups milk
1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 large egg
12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Fresh black pepper
Topping:
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup panko bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.
While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf.
Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.
Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.
Remember to save leftovers for fried Macaroni and Cheese.
