Ok first off DO NOT buy a guinea pig from a pet store, it's wrong on so many levels. A few examples:
Most of the time they are missexed
There can be at least five to a GLASS aquariam, which brings me to my next point
FISH tanks are not made for guinea pigs.

Make sure you read them fully, and you should make a point to bring your new pet to the vet for their advice as well.
Important things to invest in include a good cage (note: cage NOT a glass aquarium,, food (of course) and a decent supply of bedding (NOT cedar or pine shavings!!).
They are social animals, so more than one will make them happier (especially 2 females). Toys like cardboard tubes, empty cans and other things that they can hide and play in will keep them busy.
