Some of the clues are.... the LV logo is never cut off, the material is not cut - for example: on a speedy the front of the bag will have the LV logo and the back will have the LV logo upside down. The best advice I can give you is that they will have a serial no. that you can use to verify the bag and you can also take your bag to any LV store and they will be happy to verify it authenticity. A counterfeiter can fake anything. So any of these traits people are talking about can be copied.
Best bet is to take it into a store. Say your cousin gave it to you or something, but you really don't trust your cousin :P

the inside of the bag will be suede the outside is real leather and the color of the straps is more of a khaki, not brown color. and there should be a piece of metal on the inside that has the luis vuitton name and copyright symbol on it.

how u tell is if the LV is cut off at the bottom of the bag its fake...if its not cut off at the bottom its real
