as long as you stop now-you can cut the affects-- even in the first couple months--baby is just a tiny speck of a fetus.
you want to definately stop before too long though--during the second trimester is when babys brain, lungs, heart & everything else starts to develop.

Hi, good luck to you and your baby! Unfortunately there are risks in the first couple months if you drink a lot. That is when a lot of the formation takes place of the major organs and even the brain. I would ask for a level 2 ultrasound (usually they do those at some point anyway). Chances are you will have a healthy baby if you stop now or stopped when you found out. I don't think Fetal Alcohol Syndrome happens unless the mother has been drinking throughout the whole pregnancy. In my first pregnancy my daughter was born with heart defects because I didn't know for two months that I was pregnant and during that time was drinking a lot, smoking, and taking xenedrine which at the time had efedra. Again, chances are your baby is healthy - I think this happens to all of us who get pregnant - we never know that we are pregnant right away and usually do things that we wouldn't do if we knew we were actually pregnant.

That many drinks....every day? WOW, someone needs AA. Anyways, with that amount, I would say you have a high chance of fetal alcohol sydrome. Some women drink some before knowing they were pregnant, but the less consumed, the less likely your chances are. I drank 2 days (about 5-6 drinks a day on a weekend trip) and it was during my 2-3 week and I had no idea I was pregnant. My doctor has explained that my chances are low, but is still there at about 2-4% based on some studies. 8 drinks a day for a couple months....I can't imagine how high those risks are.

Good Luck!

The first few months are the developmental stage when most defects occur. Drinking very early on (2 weeks after conception) should be less of a threat, since the embryo is not being fed by the umbilical cord yet. 5 months on you are a bit safer but not much. If you have an addiction it can be a very scary thing to admit, so please talk to someone if you can (and this is the case with you?)If you are talking about hard drugs you will need help to stop and the baby will need prenatal care to deal with the withdrawals too.

I drunk loads on Christmas and New Years and had no idea that I was pregnant, I asked the doctor if it had damaged the baby, he said that in the first trimerster there is a win no win chance which means, if you stuff up like taking too many asprins, or drinking too much, or x rays etc the baby will abort itself, the body figures out there is something wrong and naturally aborts the baby. after the second trimester is where it can affect the baby without aborting it, now you know you are pregnant, do not drink alcoholic drinks or caffinated drinks, eat loads of fruit and vegetable and meat if you eat meat. be healthy and keep your fluids up lots of water and juice... If you have damaged the baby it will most likely abort itself, and if not you will probably be fine, so not to worry

a lot of women dont find out they are pregnant until 7 or 8 weeks, a lot of them have used drugs or alcohol until the day they found out. Most are fine, but I would check with a dr for sure.

No one knows for sure. STOP DRINKING NOW. This is not the best way for a baby to get started, but what is done is done. See a medical professional, and tell him or her about it. And pray.

it stunts your babys growth and your baby could come out deformed and or a little slow because to drink in the beginning isnt good.its actually the worst time to drink.

Fetal alcohol syndrome if you're unlucky, nothing if you're lucky.
