my work just recently promoted one of my fellow employees. three of us were up for it, and we both completely disagree with the decision made. if you were gunna promote someone, who would you promote, a, b or c?

a. female, 20, been here for 6 months (since opening), closest to employer, average sales, works on the weekends as well, late weekly, doesn't associate with other employees, very to-herself

b. female, 19, been here for 4 months, always on time, makes consistant high sales, associates with all workers, very chummy with all workers, answers new employee questions

c. female, 22, been here for 5 monthss, opens up on time daily, makes consistant good sales, friendly with all workers but 1, very familiar with business and answers a lot of questions

they promoted one of these people, i am one of these people.. who do you think they should have promoted?

and why??

I personally would say B. Even though she's been there the shortest amount of time she has high sales consistently, get's along with everyone and is willing to help out when people have questions. In my mind that is someone who would be the greatest asset the company.
Even though A seems like she has a very good work ethic when you're dealing in certain business you need someone who has a very good "people" attitude, and A seems to be lacking in that area.
C sounds good up until you say she's friendly will all workers but 1...that could be a problem in a business. Any type of problem like that could really cause problems later..and you don't any type of tension in a business.

Ok, here goes my take.

Sex doesn't matter. Age doesn't matter. Associating with other employees doesn't matter (only how they deal with the customer).

Time of service does matter, though 4-6 months there isn't enough of a difference to matter.

It's hard to judge based on when they work...some people cannot work weekends or weekdays and its just the arrangement that is made. If a person goes above and beyond (i.e. no one wants to work the weekend, and one peron always volunteers, then they deserve kudos for it).

Closest to employer shouldn't matter.

So A does average sales, works weekends, late weekly.

B always on time, high sales, sort of a mentor for new employees

C opens on time, good sales, answers a lot of questions

From what I can see, from the amount of information you provided, I'd say C.

I'd say person A. She seems to be a hard worker, and to care about her job. She has the most senority which means that she should be next in line for a promotion. She makes average sales, which means that leaving the other two high salers in place will be best for the company; getting A off the floor would be a smart move. She's very to-herself, which means that she would not have troubles being a boss because she has no emotional ties to the people she will be over. Hope this helps! (Which one are you?)

They promoted a and you're b or c. Quit your behind the back complaining and start being businesslike.

Approach your employer, without being belligerent and tell him/her that you'd like to be considered for the next promotion and ask what you can do to increase the odds that you'll get it.

One last thing, why is associating with the other employees a good thing? How does it help drive results? Or is it just an excuse for some chin wagging?

I would promote C. It was close between B and C, but B's chumminess with the other workers made me choose C. You didn't state what kind of a promotion it is, but if it has to do with supervising others, her chuminess might affect her performance.
