Can I wear a cream-colored suit to a "business formal" work event in January? Does it have to be black?

I am a woman, and I hate pant-suits...Could I wear a short houndstooth jumper with a suit jacket over it and black tights? Are the ONLY options for "business formal" a pant-suit or skirted suit? I do not even have a skirted suit :o( and the event is tomorrow.

wear whatever you want. the outfit sounds fine and it's an event and not actually work. have fun!
