I agree sumon, ive got family members that were on them for a couple of months and another for about a year or so because they couldnt find jobs.People that have worked have paid for them so it doesnt bother me.They deff need to get stricter because its sending out the wrong messages to youngsters,ie easy life if you just get pregnant etc.It should be last resort not encouragement to not bother trying to get a job.

Yes drugs suck and wreck lives, maybe the money they get given would be better spent in getting them into rehab instead,a thing which most cant afford.

It is one thing to get benefits because you don't have any arms, legs, eyes etc. and are truly not able to work.

It is another thing entirely to support generation after generation of people that work the system. Not only should these people not receive any benefits, they should be summarily shot.

I have personally known a perfectly able bodied guy that sat home every day and collected benefits. Claimed hurt back.

I videotaped him doing siding on his own house and turned him in for fraud. Little good that did, now he is in jail and we are still supporting him.

If it weren't for the billionaires wanting to make another billion and keeping it in the bank... Then maybe we could put this money to helping those less fortunate. Most people who use drugs and drink, do it as an escape! Some of the monstrous things that happen in the world are hard to live with for some people.

So I don't mind being drugged up... It's better than watching these billionaires working out how to make another buck, while children are being abused all over world in a sweatshop, others not so lucky starving and begging on the street. When they get older, all they look forward to a life of prostitution and drug abuse.

Not to mention the children in third world countries who go missing to feed some rich mans perverted sex fantasy. Why? cos nobody will notice!

People take drugs because of societal problems and usually it's down to acceptance!

Broken homes and crap education... That's what make for another dysfunctional family = a dysfunctional human being. Which in turn will create a broken and dysfunctional society!

They don't teach you to love in school, were else are they going to know how to act responsible.

In a society like ours, benefits can't and shouldn't be stopped. I do agree with you that it is very upsetting to know that a lot of people do actually defraud the system.
On the other hand there are many, many more people who do need the benefits to survive. Too many to list - the ill and needy, those like your relatives who needed a hand to get through a bad patch, those who give up full time employment to care for someone...
When you take everything into account, benefits are necessary. What would be useful would be for the government to implement measures to weed out the spongers and make the benefit system do what it should - help those who need it.
There are so many injustices in this world that we can get upset about.
I understand what you say about wanting to emigrate when you see the mess this country is in - but there are also injustices and things that make your blood boil whichever country you live in.
Try focusing on the good things in this world - there are many.
Take care now!

The majority of people on benefits arent also on drugs. The majority are people who cant work for some reason or other. There arent many jobs above minimum wage for people with no qualifications, so their wage has to be topped up or they couldnt afford the basics like rent and utilities and food.
Lots of people are too ill to work, and unfortunately we live in a society that doesnt cater for disabled people very well. People who could maybe work part time, but thats not a living wage, and there's no system that makes it possible for them to earn a living wage.
Theres also single parents, ones who didnt 'choose' that option, whove been abandoned, widowed, dumped etc. There is insufficient affordable child care to enable them to work. And theres not enough jobs suitable for working around school hours.
OK some people are milking the system or swinging the lead.
I hope that one day youre in their position. And when your living it up on less than £60 per week, you might change your mind.
and Im not on the dole. I work.
We could dump the welfare system, and bring back the workhouses for the poor. Or just have them living in the streets.
OK there are some people swinging the lead.

I understand what ur saying, but these people who use their Doll money and infact which comes from us (taxes etc) always and will get caught eventually, there are people out there who do REALLY need the money to survive, they do their utmost best to find work and make a living but still are rejected and have to rely on their allowance, if anything they should make the laws bit stricter and in a way catch the frauds out, but completely stopping them would not be fair to the honest people, its unfortunete people use the system like this, but its their own wrong doing and mistrust, but eventually they be named and shamed, and i beleive the laws will get tougher, what goes aroud comes around, PEACE"".

yes people who dont work should have full benefits taken away unless they have a good reason not to work. Ive seen videos on youtube of this guy gettin his doll money and then going straight to the shops to buy alcohol. I dont wana have to pay for these idiots to mess about all day. If we all did that Britain would be well and truely fuked

The government need to stand up and take action. Get these people working. Maybe by making them do national service and become helpful. Not only would that get them off benefits but it would give them a job and long term, maybe a career!

You can't judge everyone claiming benefit on one person that you know takes drugs.

People on benefit earn around £9 a day. Class-A drug addicts need hundreds of pounds a day to feed their habit. That's why addicts commit so much crime.

People fall on hard times and many hate having to go and beg for money. If interest rates keep rising & there's an economic collapse, many of us could need some help, just to eat.

We live in a welfare society. I'm a healthy young person with no children and I've never committed a crime. But my tax is spent on Schools, the NHS, Prisons and pensions. It's just as bad to me.

** sprcpt ** - People like you really make me angry. Get a life and stop spying on people to grass them up.

I totally agree with you even though i am on benefits...both me and the missus used to work very hard until she became very ill with crohns disease and now i am her carer...
We see young people who have no desire to work living off of the backs of the taxpayer
i also think that a lot of these single mums who's kids are grown up should have to make some sort of effort, the country brings in immigrants to do all the labour while our own sit back and relax with a joint

You're a bit hard nosed aren't you?? There are a lot of people in this country who earn minimum wage or very little above it. Why shouldn't they be allowed to top this up with benefits? This is one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in.

And people on drugs are in some ways victims too, although I know it's not popular to say it. Being addicted to a drug is a terrible way to live, not to be envied by anyone.

No. Benefits are paid to people who for what ever reason are unable to work. we as a society have to support them. We pay them very little and they have a very poor standard of life. Would you rather swap place with them? No person of sounsd physcial and psychological health chooses benefits, they are forced into it, generally have poor health and poorer life chances than people who work. They will remain in poverty. You don't know the full details of the peson on drugs, but he is an addict, this is an illness. People claiming benefit as as an income without being ill or unable to work is a fallacy of the right wing press. Perhaps we should hink about stopping two illegal wars and rebuilding trident before stiopping the income of those in need.

I appreciate what you say about students, but then the argument should be should students get a reasonable living grant, and the answer would be yes, however, attacking those who are unable to work is not the solution. In this country with jobcentre Plus you have to jump through hoops to get very little money.

Yes and because you know one person who does that, everyone claiming benefits is simply "on the take". Right? Wrong! I don't think you'd be complaining if you were out of work and needed the money. It's fine, as long as the people claiming are genuinly looking for work.
