Hey, I was just wondering what my chance of getting into pharmacy school were with the stats that I have right now. I have a 3.5 average, I have volunteered and job shadowed in a pharmacy and also volunteered in a hospital. I haven't taken the PCAT yet, but I have been studying for it with different books. I got solid letters of recommendation - one from a pediatrician, one from a pharmacist, and one from an M.D. Anything else that I could do to improve my chances. What ya'll think????

You have some pretty good stats, but for some schools, that is the median. Make sure you have a killer personal statement. Apply to a good pool of schools, so you have a better chance of scoring the interview.

I'll give you my example:

I have about a 2.9 (3.0 science GPA), have not taken the PCAT yet. Since I have been taking all my prerequisites at a community college, that narrows down the list of all the schools I can apply to. I want to stay close to home as possible, so I open my list of schools up. I include a couple "reaches" that I might like to go to.

My list of schools:
1. University of Colorado - my state, but still a reach
2. University of Wyoming
3. University of Washington - reach
4. University of Wisconsin - reach
5. South Dakota State University

Make sure you murder the PCAT. Median acceptance average for a lot of schools is at or above 80th percentile.

Oh, and visit this forum, I have found it infinitely useful!

You're fine. A pharmacy school will accept you with a GPA that high (unless your science courses are like a 2.5 or something). Just concentrate on getting a good PCAT score. Sure extra currics could help more, but you've got some so I'd spend more time worrying about getting a good PCAT score.

Pharmacy is so in need right now, as long as you can get into one, you'll find plenty of jobs.

The GPA is fine, and as long as you do well on the PCAT, you should get in somewhere.
As long as all your GPA components are above a 3.0, no worries.

youre in high school trying to get into pre-pharmacy, or youre wrapping up pre-pharmacy and trying to get into pharm school?

youll definetly get into prepharm. for pharm school, yeah youll probably get in somewhere, maybe not really elite places (though youd have a good shot) but im sure you could get in somewhere as long as you interview decent
