What are the signs of someone liking you and wanting to be your friend (and not necessarily in a romantic way)

You will never figure that out.

People are complex and do things for different reason.

A guy could act like he just wants to be your friend because he lacks the confidence to tell you he's in love with you.

Someone might think they are in love with you because they just got over a break-up and are really confused and just want a replacement.

Someone could be in love with you and treat you really mean because they have a fear of rejection.

some people could just have a bouncy personality, and it seems like they are hitting on everyone, but that's just how they treat friends.

Sometimes people will act like they don't need anyone but inside they are really lonely

The best thing to do is use your own judgment, and intuition.
Read their body language and voice tones.

Well if someone is interested in you they will ask you personal questions. They seem interested when you are speaking to them. The look into your eyes, respond quickly to your questions and or statements. Enjoy talking with you. Care about what you have to say. At least that's what I do when I want to get to know someone better.
