Time after time I see questions about why is the British Royal Family still around? Why does this bother some Americans so much. Brits are a proud people. Their country is steeped in tradition , history and heritige, although not always good, but what country is perfect? Tudor history is fascinating. If not for the royals tourism would decline, after all who were the castles and the Tower built for. The changing of the guard attracts millions each year. Or is it because some Americans are embarrassed that we do not have the rich tradition? Maybe it is because at the present moment we are not to proud of our own government ? Or maybe because they are just voicing an opionion on a topic they really know nothing about. With that--long live the Queen and all those that follow her, and long live the rich pom and circumstance and tradition that goes with it.

I agree with you. The Americans answering the questions on this site are amazing. What do they think their tax dollars are spent on. Have they been to Washington DC and seen all the pomp and wealth invested there? What about the money it takes to support the President, Airforce One, Camp David, elections and all the hangers on in Washington not to mention the congress and senate who do very little. It was good to see some educated Americans on this site that are not bigots and obsessed with what other people have. America is a good country but it has it's faults and lack of global awareness and tolerance is one of them. Leave the Brits alone and look to fixing your own problems.

The Royal Family cost each taxpayer the princely sum of 65p a year...hardly a fortune and certainly not enough for them to be supported by us all. Incidentally, all the Royal Family from the Queen down, pay tax on their income, and it was Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who instigated this move.

Thank you for defending our Monarchy...and for the people of this country who do not want to pay their 65p...you can always find a republic to go and live in, there are plenty of them.

God Save The Queen!

I guess people are wondering because of all the inbreeding the royal family has been having since the beginning of their history. I think people are shocked to know that England thinks it's okay to have sex within their blood lines. Not saying that's why it bothers them. I'm not worried about the royals. We too have corrupt people living off of our hard earned dollars and not paying their taxes either. Thank you.

Surely you don't accept the premise that Royalty by virtue of birth is inherently better than you.
