My naive and pregnant 17-yr old sister would like to name her baby, "Evah Sophie"

Am I the only one who thinks this is a horrible name?

How do I tell her that it is a bad name?

What other middle names go with "Evah" (silent h...and I hate the H too by the way...)

Actually, it is my business because it is my sister.

Secondly, I do not see a problem with the names "Eva" and "Sophie" it is the COMBINATION that I am having a problem with, it doesn't flow.

Thirdly, I have an unusual name and would have loved to been named something normal, so I am sensitive to these things.

I think Evah Sophia would be nicer than Evah Sophie. I don't see any problem with the "h" at the end except that people might want to pronounce it like it rhymes with the word "ever" with a short "e" sound.

And actually, your sister's baby's name is NONE of your business. It's her and the baby's father's business only. There's nothing worse than nosy family members.

Well Eva with or without the H is popular and a pretty name, I guess the H is supposed to make it "different" and even if you dont like it you cant really do anything, my best advice would be to find out a better sounding middle name then Sophie and one the she likes, plus depending on how pregnant she is she may still change her mind you could find a better name that means something she likes anything to put ideas in her head... or Ava instead of "Evah" is pretty too
At least shes not like some of the crazy celebrites... who wants to be named Pilot? or Apple? or Moonbeam? Magnus? or it could be worse you could be one of Kevin Federlines children hahaha

Eva"h"

First of all your sister was too young to get pregnant. At 17 the girls are too busy to go on dates. She would feel miserable having to get tied up with her baby. She would get into trouble if she goes out and leaves baby unattended. She'll definetely be tempted.

I thought your sister was thinking of some obscen names for her baby Evah Sophie is perfectly al right. Leave her alone unless she needs advice on breast feeding. At 17 years that is the only subject your sister should need advice on. I hope she is ready to fulfill her duties in that regard.

What's wrong with Evah? (I agree about the H though, people will not know how to pronounce the kids name). As far as the middle name, that does not matter! How many people go around using their middle names? Nobody does. How many introduce themselves first and middle name? Nobody does.

But alas, sister or not, you have no rights as far as what they name the child and it really is not your business since it is not your child.

It's not that horrible and the spelling is a clever separator. People spell names all kinds of ways and it's her child the name will grow on you. I went to school with a Eunis a Ythinasia (Asia for short), a Sphere and a Teena, so it could be worse. Just be supportive of her she is young and doing the best she knows how. Good Luck!

Children will grow into their names. It is your sister's little one, so there has to be a reason she's naming her this. Ask her! My daughter in law always wanted a "Chloe Elizabeth" and got a baby girl with her first try. And you can always use a personal nickname should you still find her birth name hard to bear.

I think that Eva Sophia would be a nice name. Just keep on reminding her that there are other names out there. I named my daughter Aurora, and my husband's family doesn't like it, but that didn't stop me from naming my daughter what I want. Give her suggestions and look at a baby book together and be supportive.

If your the only one that don't like the name then there is not much you can do about it. Have you told your sister how you feel? You can always give the child a nick name!

So it's pronounced Eva (like eeee-vuh)? That's not bad, actually. Sophie, I could live without. The consolation is nobody ever uses the middle name in regular life.
