my douche bag step dad smokes all the time, and i keep coughing all the time

The chances you have throat cancer are pretty low. Though it's possible.
It's far more likely that you are suffering from asthma or or chronic bronchitis from the second hand smoke if you are coughing all the time.
Please see a doctor if you can. If you doctor confirms your symptoms are due to second hand smoke, you might be able to convince your a**hole stepdad to take his smoking habits outside.

next to nothing, if you ever watch penn and teller's bullshit, they have a whole episode on the myth of second hand smoke. It will make you cough, smell, and be uncomfortable, but as far as cancer, you have a very small chance.... besides, if it bothers you that much, you're 19, move out!
P.S. I am not a smoker and never was....

probably a million to 1. your chances of getting throat cancer just being around some one who smokes is very slim . i have friends who smoke im 18 and i am not dying of cancer. probably after a long period of time of being around it you could get cancer but not for quiet a few years

Dana Reeves died from second hand smoke. So did my aunt. Both had small cell lung cancer. It's his house though, so consider moving out. When you get your own place, ban smoking! And although he is your step-father and is inconsiderate, show some respect.
Get away from that smoke though! (My mother in law also died from smoking)

Uh oh, well tell him to go outside (not that I would). I'm 13 and i smoke (not pot! only cigarettes), since i was 12, do i ave cancer? No, but i do cough alot tho.
