Do you have to write an opinion piece? An informational piece?
A biographical paper on a famous football player?
Perhaps something about lesser known (to the average person) football rules. The history of referees? and where did they get the hand signals and how long have they used them?
Maybe a paper on a specific rule including what you think of it, the history of the rule and why it exists. Such as: when a pass is thrown laterally behind the line of scrimmage and knocked down by a defender it is a fumble, rather than an incomplete pass and the ball stays live which means the defender can pick the ball up and run with it. What is the point of this rule? How old is it? Is it a good rule?
The evolution of pads and helmets is pretty interesting too. I bet you could do three pages on the creation of the NFL, or the Hall of Fame or the history of the Super Bowl.
Thinking younger---how have college and high school football have changed? When did high schools start playing football?
or younger: who is Pop Warner and how did he influence American football?
I could think of a million things---what position do you play? What are you interested in? Ever had a turf burn from artificial turf? Write about that. Play on the line? Have lineman always been so huge?
Have fun.

Name, date, and title. It could be about when to pass the ball when being takled, why teamwork is nessesary, what a good football team needs to be succesful. I don't know i'm in eight grade and had to write a 5 page research report plus 12 flashcards and a bubblemap. try using something like a bubble map or a T chart.

I once took a class in college called Sports in American Society. I had to do a paper and I picked steroids. It was very interesting and informative. I learned what they can do to your body and the problems that people have had in the past.

I'd hate to do this as a Bills fan, but you could write about how they lost the Superbowl four years in a row. The nickname is true, "Boy, I love losing Superbowls." If you figure out why, let me know.
