I've heard lots of folks on the internet say that they like Anne Rice books. I know what genre she writes, but that's all I know about her and her books. I'd like to read one. I would like to read just one. Which one would you recommend?

"Interview With a Vampire" was easily the most accessible that I've read. I can't compare with "Blackwood Farm" as I stopped at "Memnoch the Devil". I would recommend staying away from "The Witching Hour". I found it unbearably dull.

I'm sorry, but I tried reading Interview with the Vampire at least half a dozen times. And I mean I REALLY put a lot of effort into trying to read it. I just COULD NOT get past the first chapter.

I have read hundreds of books so far in my life, and I just CAN NOT find myself enjoying the earlier Anne Rice books.

And then I picked up Blackwood Farm. I almost put it down again, because it was still part of the Interview with the Vampire series, but I brought it home from the library after all, because there wasn't much of a selection that I hadn't already read.

Well, I was hooked. The writing in Blackwood Farm is nowhere near as tortuous as in Ms. Rice's earlier books. In fact, I found it very hard to put that book down.

So I recommend that you read Blackwood Farm. But I must also warn you, that it gets you hooked into the characters, and you'll find yourself reading the subsequent books in the series just to see what happened to the characters further on.

I strongly recommend "Interview with a Vampire' and the several other books that follow in the series. She has since gone religious and her works are much less interesting now.

I liked "Interview with the Vampire", 'Queen of the Damned", etc. But, my favorite is definitely "Cry to Heaven" - nothing supernatural in this one. It's a wonderful story about castrati in eighteenth century Italy. Boys with beautiful singing voices were sold by their families and castrated before they hit adolescence and their voices changed. She is really a very gifted writer.

I've read her vampire series. My favorite was Memnoch the Devil which gives an account of Lestat meeting with God and the Devil. She gives an interesting spin on the fall of Satan and creationism.

I liked the Queen of the Damned best...cause it sort of had a happy ending, unlike most of her books.
