A 2-year college provides courses that cover the basics--the first two years of a 4-year course. They can award an "Associate's degree" but that's of limited value unless you later go on to a 4-year degree.
2-year programs are often very good--and are often less expensive. But what you have to rember is that they dont provide the advanced work--that last 2 years--that is needed to be qualified in most fields as a professional. The 2-year school is a good place to start for many people. It is NOT where you want to end your formal education.
BTW--don't confuse a 2-year college with a technical or vocational school. The 2-year or community college (sometimescalled a junior college) offers the same kind of academic work as a 4-year school, they just don't offer the advanced work. But they are an academic, not a "job training" school.

The price.. 3 year community colleges are MUCH cheaper than 4 year univ. A lot of students go to 2 year and get their classes in like English, Math, etc. and then transfer them to a 4 year program.. 2 years offer things like EMT Paramedic, LPN, and basic associates in Gen studies. There really is no big difference except that u have to transfer and it's much cheaper.. 2 years have smaller class sizes and more 1 on 1 with prof.

At a 2-year college you can get an associate's degree. At a 4-year college you can get a bachelor's degree. Depending on what field you want to go into, an associate's degree might be just fine, or it might not be enough to get you a decent job.

It all depends on what you are trying to become, that is what you base your years on and how long it takes.
My husband had to go for 5 years for his Degree and that was for Mechanical Engineering.
Our granddaughter has spent 6 years so far and she is studying Veterinary medicine. She still will be learning for two more years, she wants to do it all. So it all depends on what you are going to be in the end.

two years
Seriously, the two year degree is an Associate degree.
The four year degree is the Bachelor degree.
The Master's Degree is another year after the Bachelor and the Doctorate is at least two more years past the Master's.
