I believe that USA Today has him at 26%. Another one today came out at 32%. Do you think it's really that low?

Yup. He's really botching it.

My conservative husband used to LOVE him. Last night, we were watching TV, and the Presidental thing came on, and he groaned and said, "Great, here he goes making a fool of Republicans again" and left the room.

Yes, this quote is from FOX News, and no, I don't normally get my info from them but still, I found it interesting. If true, how can anyone, while having a straight face question the leadership of ANY politician with this type of poll result skewing?

"Poll Paralysis

It has now been a month since the Washington Post and ABC news did a poll of public opinion at the year's end, but the neither the paper or the network has reported on the some of the poll's most striking findings. The poll reveals strong public optimism about Americans' personal lives and the country as a whole.

The survey showed 71 percent of respondents optimistic about America's ability to defend itself against terror attacks, 64 percent optimistic about the economy and 61 percent about how things are going in the U.S.

But none of that was mentioned in four stories referencing the poll in the Post — and two reports on ABC. Instead, those stories focused on overall pessimism about Iraq and the president's policies."

BOTH sides do it, why is there even any mention of them with any amount of seriousness?

My point is this...if polling organizations are only going to present aspects of the poll results that fit their political compass point, how would I be inclined to put faith in their release of results? Either give me the good news with the bad news...I swear, I can take it, or keep your poll to yourselves. I want the whole damned story, not what some snooty editor thinks I deserve.

It's been that low for a very long time. When polls differ greatly, they are certainly suspect. But when they consistently come out in the same ballpark from different polling sources, it's pretty safe to assume they are a good indication of popular opinion. During the mid-terms there were many Republicans who pooh-poohed the polls. But those polls were consistent and they indeed played out as correct in the actual election. Bush's approval polls all read the same, with minor variations. The American people are not happy, that is clear way beyond even polling numbers.

Absolutely. He is the least popular and most despised president in the history of the United States, even surpassing Richard M Nixon. This will be his legacy, along with the catastrophe in Iraq.

Here are some other recent poll numbers:
AP-Ipsos 1/8-10/07 32%
.
USA Today/Gallup 1/5-7/07 37%
.
CBS 1/1-3/07 30% .
CNN 12/15-17/06 36%

Historically these polls have been shown to pretty accurate, so yes I do believe that his approval ratings are that low. With his mismanagement of the war, his foibles on the domestic front, his inflaming of hatred against the United States, his squandering of our global goodwill, and his latest failure of articulating TRUE changes in strategy in Iraq, the bigger question is how can you doubt that his approval ratings are truly this low. He scores low on every metric that is used to assess a leader. If a person is flabbergasted by anything it is that his approval ratings are as high as 26 to 32%.

I am not effected by any pole that tells anything. I treat poles like a guide to events and decisions. You cannot run a country by poles. Any President that has had as many negative press reports as he does, has no other result then low pole numbers.
We need politics to stay out of the way of running our country.

Who are the people they are polling? I have never been asked what I think of him, neither have any of my family and friends. We are all Republicans. I think they are polling people in Rio Linda, CA. USA today is a known Liberal paper, so of course they have him at 26%, they would have him lower if they could get away with it. Big fat liars.

I do not believe those polls. Polls are carefully crafted to reflect the point of view the sponsor(s) of poll want as a result. It does not matter who or what the poll is about, the questions are skewed to get the desired response.

I really don't pay much attention to polls. Why? So I can follow the herd? So I can validate my feelings?

I know my own mind and my own beliefs.
