first of all there is a wood type filler which comes in different colour in england it is called two pack resin...... and is mixed together and sets rock hard. ..almost like filler for a car repair.... dig out the rotted part i assume its quite easy to scape out, mixed the filler ,let set then sand to a smooth level.... then paint in to match your colour top oil based paint would be better or if your-lucky pick up an edge piece from a kitchen supplier and stick a matching piece over filler then used a silicon sealer

step 1 remove the taps and sink from the counter. (Much easier that way.)
step 2 acquire some epoxy as required. There is a thin liquid type that can be injected. One brand name is Get Rot http://www.rotdoctor.com/epoxy/epoxyguide.html
step 3 After the sub surface has been hardened use an epoxy or wood filler to level the top so the sink can be reinstalled.
If the top is solid wood I would carefully cut a thin new piece of wood to fit at the top before doing the epoxy repair, being sure it is above the level of the counter by a bit. With a sharp chisel it should be easy to shave out enough rotted wood to fit the repair piece. Clamp it in place while the epoxy sets, and then cut away anything that sticks up or out too much.
This might be the time to consider a new sink?
After this is is aesthetics.
Options can be -
repaint the counter top. (Clean thoroughly. Sand lightly. Use melamine paint - it is really tough. Also tough to get a good finish.)
paint the repaired spot only
measure and cut a nifty base to mount a sink utensil thingy to the back area. ( soap bottle holder, sponge rack, scrub brushes, stuff like that )
Get some narrow tiles and tile the area behind the sink to match or contrast with the back splash.
Be happy, you can't fix it if it ain't broke, and you get pleasure from doing things right.

the best way i no is to remove the worktop, then you must totaly dry it out with no dampness left in it at all, then get a small tin of fibra glass resin and the catalist, then drill some 4mm holes about 12mm apart to the area, then mix the resin as instructions and poor in the little holes and paint it with resin, keep filling the holes now and again.

Your best hope is to cut out the affected area, seal the edges with Evo-Stick and refit a similar piece of top. Frankly, I think it would make a botch job and replacement is the better option. Fit an upstand while you are about it.

There is a fitment you can get, I think it's called an upstand. This is fixed in place, then put sealant between the upstand and the worktop. you can most probably get one where they sell kitchens.

You're going to need to change out that rotten area. You may just be able to cut out that rotten area and splice another piece in, with very minimal cost to you. Or you may have some extra wood that you can use. While you're refurbishing your kitchen, you just as soon do this now. Sooner or later you'll have to change it out. And when you're finished, just seal it as you normally would. Best of luck to you.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/EBfcT
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.
