Frequent green stools could be a sign that he is having a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, a food allergy, or a reaction to a medication. If your new baby is breastfeeding and has infrequent green stools they could be a sign of foremilk/hindmilk inbalance. In breastfeeding, unlike formula feeding, the composition of the milk changes over the course of a feeding (as well as a day, week, and over the months). The foremilk that a baby gets during the first few minutes of the feeding is more thirst quenching and lower in fat. The hindmilk is higher and fat and more filling. If your baby is not nursing long enough at one breast, your baby may not be getting enough of the high fat hindmilk resulting in a greenish looking stool. An infrequent green stool is not a concern, but if it's happening throughout the day, you should definitely discuss them with your pediatrician.

Very normal! Especially if you are breastfeeding and have had food that might be a little harder for baby to digest. Dont worry, it is perfectly fine. The only time you should get a concern is if you find blood in the stools, or a very dark black stool (while baby is only on formula or nursing) if baby has no stools for more than a week at a time talk to your doctor. Congratulations on the birth of your new baby!

I'd say so, he's had different foods for 5 weeks now, and his body is just making the adjustments, but better ask the doctor to be sure.

Is he exclusively breastfed? (Guessing your nursing due to the "mustard yellow" color.)

Or have you made any changes to his diet? (Supplemented with formula?)

If he is breastfed, the green COULD be due to changes in mom's diet.

It could also be a sign of a hindmilk imbalance, especially if it is green and "frothy" poop.
