I've used panty hose filled with good cat litter to destroy odors in shoes before. For my husband's shoes, I have used febreeze heavy duty, let it dry overnight, then let the shoes sit with the cat litter panty hose bags a whole day and night. Of course this is just a first, every time he wears the shoes i have to put the bags back in overnight and if he forgets socks, I have to do the whole process again. It's a pain but it's worth it so my clothes don't smell like his shoes. Also, the person with the stinky feet can use Gold Bond Ultra body powder on their feet. It's a bit expensive, but totally worth it for eliminating foot funk. Good Luck

everything needs to be dry, usually odor is caused by moisture which leads to mold or mildew, so start with the socks and make sure that they are dry then the inside of the shoe, dry with a blow dryer and then put baby powder or talcum in them overnight, change any inserts you may have. my brother has to do this still to this day and he's mid 30's

Try balled up newspaper sprinkled with baking soda. Air them out on your porch or somewhere in the fresh air, with the paperballs in them.
