Uh-oh, it's not a stain, it's a burn. It's permanent.

It depends on how big the stain is. Also if the counter top has a pattern.

If it is a whole scorch mark the diameter of the pan?

You are outta luck.

If it is a small cigarette type stain, you can scrape out the burnt stuff and fill with an epoxy filler

after that it is a matter of sanding level with progressively finer sandpaper, and using appropriate coloring to hide the repair. Not an easy task - I am the only one I know who has succeeded at it.

It is best to repeat the mantra "I will never do this again" as you work, it will improve your Karma very slightly, but good intentions amount to little.

define; scorched? if you totally blackened it, you're outta luck. if you just turned it brownish, you could try sanding it lightly with a very fine sand paper. don't try to get it all off with one grit! start with 100, then 150, and then 200 grit. now this will only lessen the stain, and the color doesn't run very deep so go easy. when you get through with this, wipe the counter with mineral oil to give it some shine. then cover it with a cutting board to hide it. and use something like the cutting board in the future as a hot plate holder. good luck.
