Eat nothing for 12 hours prior to the test...this will allow for an accurate reading of your true blood sugar... Even if you eat bland..scrambled eggs... toast, there are small amounts of sugars in these foods that CAN affect your 1 hour test.

I took mine a few weeks ago, and it is not that big a deal to fast for 12 hours. Just be ready to go and eat something soon after, as it can make your stomach upset if it sits too long.

The biggest reason not to eat before your 1 hour test.. is that if you get a high reading on that test, they will send you in for a 3 hour test which REALLY sucks... more glucose crap, and longer time to sit there.

I just had my test on Tuesday. My instructions were not to eat or drink anything one hour before the test. After you drink "the stuff", which taste like really fizzy soda, you still can't have anything to eat or drink even mints, gum, etc for one hour, then your bloods taken. I found out the results that day, but every doctors office is different. You should call your doctor before your test so you can be sure of their instructions like I said every office works differently. Also, I had the choice between orange and lemon-lime, I suggest the lemon-lime.
Good luck!

I work in the medical field plus have had gestational diabetes with two of my pregnancies and you CANNOT eat ANYTHING for at least 8 hours before your test. They will tell you to fast for 8 hours and that means nothing to eat whether it is the one hour or three hour. Since you are pregnant they usually recommend you schedule it for the morning so it is easier on you.

Eat nothing sweet for 12 hrs before but make sure you eat some protein so you don't get too light headed or anything. I've done it 5 times and my last one was just last week. Right after I went and got a burger and fries and a coke! :)

I was told that there is no restriction on eating before. I had my glucose test today and they didn't even ask if I've eaten anything. You might want to call the lab or doctor just to double check. I don't know if they do different things in different places.

For the 1 hour test you eat like you normally do.

For the 3 hour (if you fail the 1 hour) you have to be on a special diet for 3 days then fast before the test.
